This is: Rethink Priorities is hiring a COO, published by abrahamrowe on September 1, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum.I'm Abraham Rowe, the current Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Rethink Priorities (RP). I joined RP as its first operations hire in 2020. At the time, RP was fiscally sponsored by Rethink Charity, who provided its operational support, and was getting ready to spin out into being an independent entity.Since then, we've expanded a lot. From around 10 staff when I joined, to over 110 (including staff of fiscally sponsored projects) today. We're operating in over 15 countries, have two legal entities, and are now an operationally complex (and interesting!) project. We fiscally sponsor cool projects like Epoch, Apollo Research, and the Existential Risk Alliance Fellowship. We incubate projects like Condor Camp. We conduct high quality research in animal welfare, AI governance and strategy, global health and development, and more. We conduct public opinion polling, run coordination events for cause areas, and generally work to improve the coordination and research quality in EA and adjacent fields.I'm now leaving to pursue other projects, and RP is hiring its next COO! This is a senior leadership position at Rethink Priorities, directly contributing to organizational strategy, while overseeing multiple critical lines of work, like finance, HR, development, and communications. If you're interested in applying, check out the full job ad here, and feel free to drop any questions in the comments, or send them to [email protected] if you aren't interested, please refer strong candidates to us!
